Clay expressed her delight and surprise at the outcome, stating that the result was "pretty unexpected" yet "pretty exciting." Her performance on the 10.7km course saw her complete the race in 15 minutes and 42 seconds. This placed her 24 seconds behind the gold medalist, Maria Okrucińska of Poland, and 12 seconds adrift of Belgium’s Yana Decruyenaere, who took silver. Clay’s bronze medal was hard-won, as she edged out Switzerland’s Anja Grossmann by a mere seven-hundredths of a second, demonstrating her competitive spirit and precision.
This achievement at the World Championships builds upon a stellar season for Clay. In July, she clinched the British junior time trial championship, a testament to her strength and focus in this discipline. Beyond time trials, she has also showcased her talent in road races. Notably, in June, she became the first junior rider to win the women’s Ronde van Wymeswold overall. As this is Clay's inaugural season in the junior ranks and her first appearance at the World Championships, her performance is particularly noteworthy.
