The Academy Is... Returns with New Album 'Almost There'

Instructions

The Academy Is..., the revered pop-punk ensemble, has declared their re-entry into the music scene with their forthcoming album, 'Almost There.' Scheduled for release on March 27 under the I Surrender Records label, this marks their first new studio effort in nearly two decades. The album's title intentionally echoes their impactful 2005 debut, 'Almost Here,' signaling a thematic continuation and evolution.

Reflecting on this significant return, William Beckett shared his thoughts, noting that while their initial album, 'Almost Here,' symbolized a quest for permanence, 'Almost There' acknowledges the continuous journey of self-discovery. He emphasized that life's definitions of 'home' are ever-changing, and the new record delves into this exploration of life's fluidity. Accompanying this announcement, the band unveiled their lead single, '2005,' a nostalgic track characterized by sparkling synthesizers, Mike Carden’s distinctive guitar riffs, and the steadfast rhythms of drummer Andy Mrotek and bassist Adam Siska.

Mike Carden elaborated on the album's essence, highlighting the journey from their youth as 19-year-old artists to their current selves at 28, implying 'Almost There' bridges the experiences accumulated over these years. This album follows their last full-length release, 'Fast Times at Barrington High,' from 2008, before their hiatus in 2011. Despite their disbandment, the group has sporadically reunited for special performances, including a successful 20th-anniversary tour for 'Almost Here' last year, which saw extended dates due to popular demand. Carden stressed that the new album isn't merely a look back at the early 2000s pop-punk and emo era but a reflection of their current realities, aiming to connect with an audience that has matured alongside them, navigating similar life changes, triumphs, and adversities.

The return of The Academy Is... with 'Almost There' transcends a simple musical comeback; it represents a mature evolution, demonstrating that true artistry grows and adapts while retaining its core identity. Their journey inspires a belief in continuous growth and the enduring power of music to reflect life's ever-changing landscape.
