Aperture Unveils an Engaging Autumn Schedule at Its New Manhattan Home
This fall, Aperture's new location at 380 Columbus Avenue in New York City is set to become a focal point for the photography community, hosting a series of dynamic public programs. The inaugural exhibition, aptly titled “Aperture Loves New York,” will run from September 18 to November 1, 2026. This showcase pays homage to the city's enduring influence on photographers and features works from over twenty artists, including iconic figures such as Diane Arbus, Robert Frank, Stephen Shore, and Carrie Mae Weems, whose visions have been shaped by the vibrant tapestry of New York. The exhibition is curated by Executive Director Sarah Meister and pairs significant photographs with Aperture’s influential publications.
Beyond the exhibition, the calendar is packed with events designed to foster deeper engagement with the art form. On Wednesday, September 23, Elle Pérez will launch their first monograph, “Devotions,” offering a poignant exploration of themes like love, pain, and vulnerability. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase pre-signed copies and participate in this intimate artistic unveiling. Registration is required for this event.
A conversation on “Photobook Publishing Across the Globe” is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30. This discussion will unite Anshika Varma of Offset Projects, based in South Asia, with Russet Lederman and Olga Yatskevich from 10×10 Photobooks, to explore the independent publishing landscape from New Delhi to New York. As part of this event, Offset Projects will feature a selection of South Asian independent photobooks for sale in Aperture’s bookstore until October 2.
Renowned photographer Stephen Shore will engage in a dialogue with Lucy Gallun, Curator in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, on Saturday, October 3. This event, “Aperture Loves New York: Stephen Shore and Lucy Gallun,” will explore Shore’s impactful images from his seminal photobook “Uncommon Places” and his lasting legacy in photography.
Further enriching the program, photographer and filmmaker Gillian Laub will converse with artist and curator Jil Weinstock on Wednesday, October 14, discussing Laub’s career and her powerful work, including a piece from her book “Family Matters” featured in the “Aperture Loves New York” installation.
On Wednesday, October 21, the celebrated photographer, writer, and jeweler Coreen Simpson will share insights into her diverse practice and her extensive history of documenting New York’s art and fashion scenes. She will be joined by writer and curator Rujeko Hockley for this enlightening discussion.
The season culminates with the “PhotoWork Symposium” on Wednesday, October 28. This event, a collaboration between Aperture and PhotoWork, will showcase the 2025 Senior Fellows—Michelle Arcila, Will Matsuda, and José Ibarra Rizo—as they present their fellowship-created bodies of work. Their presentations will be followed by discussions with their mentors, Ron Jude, Raymond Meeks, and Kristine Potter, providing an invaluable look into their artistic processes.
