A notable modification involves the 'Outstanding British Film' category, where the initial longlist of contenders will now feature 20 films, an increase from the previous 15. The final selection will continue to consist of 10 nominees, with half chosen by general membership vote and the other half by a specialized nominating jury. Strengthening Expertise in Performance Categories
Further refinements have been made to the performance categories. Members of BAFTA's casting chapter will now participate in the longlisting and nominations alongside the acting chapter. The performance submission window will also close a week earlier to facilitate thorough review.

In response to the growing presence of AI, BAFTA has clarified its position on the technology's role in film production. While emphasizing 'human achievement' as the core of its awards, new guidelines permit BAFTA to request detailed information regarding the use of generative AI or other digital tools. This allows the film committee to assess the extent of human creative involvement in works that utilize advanced technology. Despite technological advancements, BAFTA maintains that its awards will always be conferred upon human creators.
Mandatory Bullying and Harassment Policies
BAFTA continues to prioritize ethical conduct within the industry by making anti-bullying and harassment policies mandatory for all British category submissions. While currently not compulsory for international entries, BAFTA will now actively collect information on these policies from all submitted productions, with the clear expectation that adherence will become a universal requirement in the near future.
Key Dates for the Upcoming Awards Season
The British Academy has also released the critical dates for the upcoming awards cycle. Entries officially opened on July 22. The first round of voting commences on December 4, with the longlists scheduled for release on January 7, coinciding with the opening of the second voting round. Final nominations will be announced on January 19, and the last round of voting begins on January 26. The prestigious BAFTA Film Awards ceremony is slated for February 21.
