In designing this house, the architectural team ventured far beyond merely observing the site's physical attributes and immediate visual appeal. Their approach encompassed a meticulous study of Jeoji Oreum's scale and orientation, alongside the sun's daily trajectory. Crucially, they delved into the historical layers of human interaction with this landscape, exploring how generations have lived on and shaped this land. The architects also pondered the profound significance of an 'oreum' – one of Jeju's characteristic volcanic cones – within the broader island ecosystem. For the designers, the concept of 'place' extends beyond geology and scenery; it embodies the collective lives, cherished memories, and the passage of time etched into the very soil.
