For thirty years, siblings Dan and Scott Stevenson, hailing from South Shore, Kentucky, have dedicated themselves to muskie fishing on Canada's famed Lake Manitou in southern Ontario. Their extensive experience with this expansive 40-square-mile lake has honed their skills, leading to numerous catches, including a notable 45-inch muskie earlier in August by Scott.
Their perseverance paid off when, during a trolling pass near a familiar reef, Scott's Buchertail lure was engulfed by a colossal muskie. The encounter occurred in deep, clear waters, roughly 100 yards from their prime fishing spot. Scott, using a Shimano 400 bait-casting reel with braided line and a heavy fluorocarbon leader, skillfully managed the powerful fish. The muskie's initial bite was precarious, with only one hook securing it, prompting careful handling by Dan to avoid losing their biggest catch ever. After a series of strong runs, the fish was finally guided into the net, where the hook dislodged, signaling their fortunate success.
The brothers promptly measured the magnificent muskie at 51.5 inches.
