Both Ford and McLaren bring a storied legacy to endurance racing. Ford boasts a remarkable four consecutive victories at Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, an era that saw them break Ferrari’s dominance. McLaren, on the other hand, achieved a legendary win with its F1 GTR in 1995, famously outperforming purpose-built prototypes in challenging wet conditions. Ford recently achieved a major milestone in their hypercar development by successfully igniting their 5.4-litre Coyote V8 engine, fully integrated with the hybrid system, at Oreca’s facility in France. On-track testing is scheduled to commence in August across various European circuits, with a second test car planned for later stages and final development concluding in North America. McLaren’s development of the MCL-HY is also progressing as planned, with multiple tests already completed using its Dallara LMP2-based LMDh prototype. The MCL-HY made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, driven by Gregoire Saucy and reigning F1 champion Lando Norris, showcasing a special Bruce McLaren tribute livery. Additional testing is scheduled before its homologation in the US, alongside the installation of a new driver-in-the-loop simulator at the McLaren Technology Centre.
