Significant Expansion of Cross-Border Vehicle Access Announced

The Transport Department in Hong Kong has revealed a notable increase in the number of private vehicle permits for journeys to Macao using the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The quota has been elevated by 400, reaching a total of 1,400 permits available for eligible drivers.

Quota Allocation and Permit Validity

This latest augmentation in vehicle permits incorporates both newly established allocations, mutually agreed upon by the governments of Hong Kong and Macao, as well as 1,000 permits that have been reissued following their expiration. These three-year permits are scheduled to commence their validity period on September 30, with an expiration date set for September 29, 2029.

Application Process for Non-Commercial Private Vehicles

The application window for non-commercial private vehicles is slated to open on August 7. Both individual residents and corporate entities actively involved in specific business or employment sectors in Macao are eligible to apply, provided they meet the stipulated criteria.

Eligibility for Hong Kong Residents and Registered Companies

Permanent residents of Hong Kong and companies officially registered within the region are also invited to apply for a portion of the available open quotas. These specific permits do not carry any predefined eligibility conditions, broadening access for the general public and businesses.

Timeline for Online Registration and Selection

Online registration for these permits will be available until August 20. Following the closure of the application period, the allocation of the quotas will be conducted through a ballot system, ensuring a fair and transparent distribution process.
