Executive director Aakash Minda revealed that this investment is earmarked for the domestic production of thin-film transistor (TFT) displays, which are integral to contemporary vehicle design.

The ambitious project has garnered crucial approval from the Indian government's Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors. This endorsement underscores the national strategic importance of localizing the production of advanced electronic components and reducing dependency on foreign imports. The new facility is designed to significantly diminish the company's reliance on imported displays, thereby fortifying India's indigenous manufacturing footprint.

Initially, the plant will concentrate on fabricating automotive displays for essential vehicle systems, including instrument clusters, sophisticated infotainment units, and integrated cockpit displays. Minda Corporation already boasts expertise in producing various display-related components and intends for the new facility to supply its internal operations, as well as serve a diverse range of external clientele. Thin-film transistors constitute a substantial portion, roughly 40-45%, of the total bill of materials for an automotive display module, with the majority currently being imported. Minda's strategy involves a phased approach, commencing with localizing the assembly process before progressively integrating more components into domestic production.

Aakash Minda emphasized the company's core objective: to achieve comprehensive localization and backward integration within the supply chain. He articulated that developing, designing, and manufacturing products locally will significantly enhance Minda Corporation's competitive standing and fuel its future business expansion. While acknowledging potential long-term opportunities in international markets, the immediate priority remains strengthening domestic capabilities, expanding production capacity, and cultivating specialized expertise within India to meet burgeoning local demand. Export ventures, he noted, will be explored only after a robust domestic presence has been firmly established, recognizing the vast potential in overseas markets.
