Before dedicating her career to interior design, Alexander explored various artistic avenues, including art therapy and dance. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Mr. Lulu, a fashion line where she crafted distinctive garments from vintage and repurposed materials. This hands-on experience later transitioned into custom furniture creation, a pursuit that continues to underpin her meticulous understanding of craftsmanship and the tactile qualities of materials.
In 2006, Alexander founded Siren Betty, her Chicago-based design studio. The firm’s projects demonstrate a versatile design philosophy, beginning with Layla & Ringo's. This Chicago coffee shop, part of a larger multi-concept venue, was designed to accommodate a dynamic daily flow. Alexander focused on providing abundant natural light, comfortable seating, and various counter heights to cater to remote workers and casual visitors alike. The space's adaptability, allowing it to transition from a morning coffee spot to an afternoon workspace and evening social hub, was a key design objective, fostering an environment where guests feel welcome regardless of their reason for visiting.

For Dimmi Dimmi, the design team aimed to evoke the warmth and familiarity of a classic Italian-American restaurant. The space features nostalgic elements like checkerboard floors, rich red leather, and vintage-inspired lighting, balanced with playful details such as soft florals and unique hardware. Alexander emphasizes the importance of layering, incorporating both commissioned art and thrifted pieces to create a sense of history and comfort, making guests feel as if they are returning to a beloved, long-standing establishment.

For El Che Steakhouse + Bar, Alexander collaborated with a long-time associate, Chef John Manion. The design for this live-fire cooking establishment incorporates reflective surfaces like oversized mirrors and metallic light fixtures. These elements create dynamic flashes of light and activity from the open flames, contributing to the restaurant’s dark, moody, yet exciting ambiance. This project showcases Alexander’s ability to integrate design with the functional heart of a venue.
