A new era in portable gaming is set to begin with the anticipated release of the Xbox ROG Ally. This innovative device, a joint venture between Asus and Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios, aims to redefine handheld gaming. Announced during the Xbox Game Showcase at Summer Game Fest, the console will feature distinctive Xbox branding alongside a custom-built operating system. The collaboration builds on the success of ROG’s existing lineup of gaming handhelds, promising an advanced gaming experience for enthusiasts.
The product line will include two distinct models, offering users varying levels of performance and affordability. These devices are equipped to play Windows-based games acquired through multiple platforms such as Xbox itself, Battle.net, GoG, Ubisoft Connect, and Steam. According to EXtra1s, a notable figure known for sharing retail insights ahead of official announcements, pre-orders are scheduled to start in August. Retail data from Europe suggests that pricing will be €899 for the high-end model and €599 for the standard version. Although an exact date hasn't been disclosed, the launch is expected to occur in October.
This technological marvel will initially be available across numerous countries including Australia, various European nations, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and the United States, among others. Subsequent releases are planned for additional markets where ROG Ally series products are currently sold. Microsoft's vision aligns perfectly with this project, as expressed earlier this year by Jason Ronald, VP of Next Generation at Microsoft. He emphasized the importance of integrating the strengths of both Xbox and Windows to enhance user experiences. This initiative underscores the company's commitment to expanding its influence within the broader Windows ecosystem, benefiting both players and developers alike.
