Instructions

A new strategic alliance is set to revolutionize Hong Kong's digital finance landscape. The Bank of East Asia (BEA) and Anchorpoint Financial have formalized their commitment through a Memorandum of Understanding to investigate real-world applications for HKDAP, Anchorpoint's stablecoin pegged to the Hong Kong dollar. This collaboration signals a significant step towards integrating regulated tokenized money into everyday commercial operations within the region.

The synergy between Anchorpoint’s expertise in stablecoin issuance and BEA’s extensive banking infrastructure and client network forms the cornerstone of this initiative. The joint endeavor is geared towards creating financial solutions that are both secure and compliant, emphasizing novel approaches to payment and settlement processes. Zinnser Hong, BEA's group chief innovation officer, highlighted the potential of blockchain technology and tokenization to fulfill the growing demand for seamless, 24/7 digital financial services, underscoring the bank's commitment to digital transformation and Hong Kong's ambition to become a leading digital asset hub.

Dominic Maffei, CEO and co-founder of Anchorpoint, emphasized the broad economic advantages that regulated tokenized currencies could offer to businesses and various market participants. Anchorpoint, a joint venture established by Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong, HKT, and Animoca Brands in February 2025, obtained its stablecoin issuer license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority in April 2026. Its primary goal is to establish HKDAP as a tokenized medium for digital economic transactions, international payments, and capital flows. While specific projects, financial commitments, or an exact timeline for implementation have yet to be disclosed, both companies anticipate announcing further details in due course.

This pioneering partnership between traditional banking and innovative fintech underscores a forward-thinking approach to finance, embracing the transformative power of blockchain. By developing regulated tokenized money solutions, Hong Kong is poised to enhance its financial infrastructure, offering greater efficiency, security, and accessibility in the digital age, thus reinforcing its position as a global financial center.
