Experience Unrivaled Luxury and Space: The BMW iX5 Extended Wheelbase for China

The Strategic Debut of the Extended iX5 in China

Today marks the introduction of the long-wheelbase BMW iX5 electric SUV in China. This model has been meticulously crafted to cater to the specific preferences of Chinese customers, offering an amplified sense of interior space, superior seating comfort, and an innovative panoramic television for rear passengers.

Adapting to a Evolving Market

BMW recognizes the significant transformation within the Chinese automotive sector. After reaching a peak in sales in 2021, the company observed a notable downturn in the region. To counteract this trend and strengthen its position, BMW is introducing market-specific vehicles like the long-wheelbase iX5, building on the success of earlier extended models such as the iX3 crossover and i3 sedan, which also emphasized advanced technology and increased passenger room.

Enhanced Dimensions and Unparalleled Rear Comfort

The extended iX5 elevates passenger comfort to new heights. Compared to its standard counterpart, this version boasts an additional 5.1 inches (130 millimeters) in its wheelbase, resulting in a total length of 124.6 inches (3,165 mm). This makes it BMW's longest-wheelbase production SUV, rivaling even the X7. The added length is exclusively dedicated to the rear passenger compartment, creating an expansive environment for relaxation or productivity.

Innovative Rear Entertainment and Interior Refinements

A standout feature of the extended iX5 is the inclusion of the Theatre Screen, a 31.3-inch, 8K-resolution display previously seen in the flagship 7 Series. This retractable screen provides a versatile platform for entertainment, work, or gaming, ensuring an engaging experience for all occupants. Furthermore, the vehicle features elongated rear doors, upgraded seating, and a redesigned interior with refined surfaces and decorative elements. The front cabin also benefits from the Neue Klasse-specific Panoramic Vision central display and, for the first time in an X5 model, a dedicated display for the front passenger.

Advanced Powertrain and Impressive Range

Beneath its luxurious exterior, the iX5 is powered by BMW's cutting-edge electric drive units, complemented by a substantial 144-kilowatt-hour, 800-volt battery. This setup allows for rapid charging, achieving 10% to 80% capacity in just 22 minutes at a DC fast charger. The long-wheelbase iX5 boasts an impressive CLTC range of 621 miles (1,000 kilometers). While the EPA estimate for the U.S. model is a more conservative 425 miles (700 km), it remains a highly competitive figure. This new model, alongside its gasoline-powered X5 sibling, is slated for release in both China and the U.S. next year.
