Canon's official Japanese online store explicitly states 'sales ended' for this model, indicating a clear end to its availability in that region.
Continued Availability and Support in the United States
However, the situation differs significantly in the United States. Canon U.S.A. continues to offer the EOS RP, often accompanied by substantial discounts, and major retailers also stock the camera. Canon U.S.A. Inc. has confirmed that the EOS RP remains available for purchase, with ongoing service and support, as no end-of-service life has been determined for the region.
Distinguishing Inventory from Active Production
It's often challenging to differentiate between a product that is part of existing inventory and one still in active production. Given that the EOS RP launched in early 2019 and is currently heavily discounted in the American market, it's highly probable that the camera falls into the former category. While technically still in stock, the significant price reduction suggests an effort to clear remaining inventory rather than an ongoing production run.
Canon's Long-Term Support Commitment
Canon's policy typically involves supporting products for an extended period, often up to 10 years, before officially 'retiring' them.
