Google Calendar is introducing a significant update that aims to alleviate the common issue of excessive email notifications for meeting organizers. This new functionality will enable organizers or their delegates to decide whether to receive RSVP emails and automatic replies, such as out-of-office messages, directly addressing a long-standing point of frustration for many users.
This innovative feature, labeled 'Get an email when guests respond,' will be activated by default, meaning users will need to manually deselect the option if they wish to opt out of receiving these notifications. When disabled, organizers will no longer receive RSVP emails from attendees utilizing Google Calendar, though their attendance status will still be visible within the event. Furthermore, for attendees using external calendar platforms like Outlook, organizers will neither receive RSVP emails nor see their status updated in the Calendar event. All email auto-replies will also be suppressed. This enhancement is especially beneficial for managing large-scale meetings and will apply to entire recurring event series.
The phased implementation of this feature has commenced, with a rapid release already underway and a scheduled release for all Google Workspace clients, individual Workspace subscribers, and personal Google account holders starting on September 10th. This update represents a proactive step by Google to enhance user experience by reducing digital clutter and providing greater control over communication flow within its widely used scheduling application, fostering a more organized and efficient environment for event coordination.
