This one-way data flow meant that while Apple Health and Apple Watch data could be imported into Google Health, the reverse was not true for Fitbit metrics.
With this new release, the Google Health application now facilitates the automatic sharing of various health and fitness metrics recorded by Fitbit devices, including exercise routines, daily step totals, and sleep patterns, directly with Apple Health. Users can manage these connections through the 'Partner apps' section within Google Health, selecting precisely which categories of information they wish to synchronize. While this marks a major improvement, certain metrics, such as heart rate variability (HRV), are reportedly still not transferable between the platforms.
This update represents a crucial step in Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience, particularly following the integration of the standalone Fitbit application into the broader Google Health ecosystem earlier this year. It addresses a frequent request from Fitbit users, especially those who use iPhones but prefer Fitbit's specialized hardware for tracking their fitness.
