Significant Operational Milestones Achieved by the New Taxi Fleets
Since its phased introduction in the previous year, the five prominent taxi fleets, namely SynCab, Big Boss Taxi, Amigo, Big Bee Taxi, and Joie, have collectively executed approximately 4.2 million journeys. This substantial volume of trips has been facilitated by a robust network of over 2,000 taxis and a dedicated team of about 2,400 drivers, demonstrating the system's operational scale and capacity.
A Younger Generation at the Wheel: Demographics of the Fleet Drivers
A notable characteristic of the new fleet system is the relatively youthful average age of its drivers, standing at 47 years. This figure is considerably lower than the overall industry average of 60. Furthermore, drivers within the 30-39 age bracket constitute a significant 20% of the fleet's total workforce, indicating a shift towards a younger, more dynamic driving pool.
Advancements in Electric Vehicle Integration and Charging Infrastructure
The Transport Department has actively supported the transition towards sustainable transport by processing over 200 applications for the "Dedicated 100% Loan Guarantee Scheme for Battery Electric Taxis." This initiative has been instrumental in augmenting the number of electric vehicles within the fleets. Concurrently, the collaboration between fleet operators and charging service providers has led to the establishment of more than 160 charging stations across the territory, fostering a greener urban environment.
Enhanced Accessibility Through Strategic Stopping Points and Centralized Booking
To further improve convenience for passengers, 95 exclusive taxi stopping points have been strategically introduced across 16 key locations. These include major transport hubs and attractions such as the airport, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Phase II, M+ Museum, and the Hong Kong Port Area of the new Huanggang Port. Additionally, the integrated booking platform, "Easy Ride," which connects all five fleets, has registered over 400,000 visits and linked more than 10,000 taxis, with nearly 40% of bookings successfully completed through this platform.

The Department of Transport highlights a significant reduction in both complaint rates and accident occurrences for the new fleet taxis when compared to traditional taxis. This superior performance is largely attributed to the effective driver management strategies implemented by the fleet operators, ensuring a higher standard of safety and service for passengers.
