John Sadler, a renowned figure in horse racing, has decided to withdraw his exceptionally valuable juvenile, Inshallah, from the Del Mar Futurity (G1). Instead, the plan is to extend the colt's racing distance, preparing him for a two-turn race at Santa Anita this autumn.
Prioritizing Distance Over Sprint for the Flightline Offspring
Inshallah, a $2.1 million progeny of Flightline, made an impressive debut on August 15 at Del Mar. However, the seven-furlong Futurity on September 6 will be bypassed in favor of the Grade 1, $300,000 American Pharoah Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile race scheduled for October 3. Sadler communicated this shift to the Daily Racing Form.
The Rationale Behind the American Pharoah Stakes Selection
Sadler articulated his reasoning, stating, "He's going to compete in the American Pharoah. He's poised to excel over longer distances, and this provides him with additional recovery time." The American Pharoah Stakes offers a 49-day gap since his last race, a considerably longer break than the 22 days the Futurity would have allowed.
Recapping Inshallah's Dominant Maiden Victory
Inshallah seized the lead early in his 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race. He set impressive initial fractions of 21.52 and 44.44 seconds, ultimately securing a 1 1/2-length victory over Icanthelpmyself with Joel Rosario aboard, clocking in at 1:03.11. His performance earned him a 90 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest among two-year-olds at Del Mar's summer meet and the second highest for a juvenile in 2026, surpassed only by Kennyten's 92 Beyer.

Sadler expressed confidence in Inshallah's ability to adapt to different racing styles, noting the colt's composed demeanor during morning training sessions. "His training indicated he would manage rating effectively. While his race showcased his immense speed, his Saturday workout demonstrated a remarkable calmness," Sadler explained.
A Gateway to the Breeders' Cup and Kentucky Derby Points
The American Pharoah Stakes holds significant importance as a Breeders' Cup Challenge race. The winner secures an automatic, all-expenses-paid entry into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on October 30 at Keeneland. Furthermore, it offers valuable Kentucky Derby qualifying points distributed on a 10-5-3-2-1 scale.
Inshallah's Pedigree and High-Value Acquisition
Owned by KAS Stables, Inshallah was the top seller at the Fasig-Tipton Mid-Atlantic 2-year-olds in training sale in May. He was bred in New York by Chester and Mary Broman and is out of the Medaglia d'Oro mare Bar of Gold, who famously won the 2017 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Del Mar. Notably, Sadler also trained Inshallah's sire, the undefeated 2022 Horse of the Year, Flightline.
