Instructions

Nick Jonas recently delivered a poignant live rendition of his latest track, “Gut Punch,” on “The Tonight Show.” The performance was a captivating display, beginning with Jonas at the piano before transitioning to a more dynamic stage presence, supported by a ballerina and two versatile percussionist-dancers. This evocative presentation underscored the deeply personal themes embedded in his new single.

Released on New Year’s Day, “Gut Punch” serves as the lead single from Jonas’ forthcoming album, “Sunday Best,” slated for a February 6 debut under Republic Records. This album marks a significant return for the artist, being his first solo project in half a decade. He has described the collection as an intimate mosaic of fresh narratives, introspective reflections, quiet city strolls, and personal moments captured over the past few years, offering fans a glimpse into his recent experiences and emotional landscape.

The song delves into Jonas’ struggles with self-doubt, a sentiment he openly shared upon its release. He explained his tendency towards self-criticism, particularly regarding his personal growth and roles as a husband and father, rather than physical appearance or aging. The lyrics ponder whether he is truly striving to be his best self and fulfill his responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of recalling a more carefree past self amidst life's mounting pressures and complexities.

Jonas first introduced “Gut Punch” to live audiences in November during the Jonas Brothers’ tour stop in Las Vegas. Following this, he also featured the song at the group’s New Year’s Eve concert in Miami, a Samsung TV Plus-sponsored event. These early performances generated anticipation for his solo return and the forthcoming album.

His previous solo effort, “Spaceman,” was released in 2021, featuring eleven tracks. This album followed “Last Year Was Complicated,” which came out in 2016, further establishing his solo career alongside his work with the Jonas Brothers. The upcoming “Sunday Best” aims to build on this foundation, offering a mature and introspective collection of new music.

The Jonas Brothers embarked on their “Jonas20: Greetings From Your Hometown” tour with a sold-out show at MetLife Stadium on August 10, 2025. Initially planned for over 50 dates through November, with stops in major cities across North America, the tour was later expanded with an additional 19 dates, extending its run until December 22. This extensive tour demonstrated the group's enduring popularity and their commitment to performing for a wide audience, while also allowing Nick Jonas to introduce new solo material.

Nick Jonas’ recent performance on "The Tonight Show" for his single "Gut Punch" showcased his evolution as an artist. With introspective lyrics exploring self-doubt and the complexities of life, the song provides a candid reflection on his personal journey. The visually rich performance, complemented by interpretive dance, highlighted the emotional depth of the track and offered a compelling preview of his upcoming album, "Sunday Best," his first solo release in five years.
