Fatty liver refers to the condition where too much fat accumulates in the liver. Normally, the liver contains a small amount of fat, but when the fat content exceeds 5% of the liver's weight, it is diagnosed as fatty liver.
▸Alcoholic fatty liver: Long-term and heavy drinking can cause excessive fat accumulation in the liver, which is the main cause of alcoholic fatty liver. When alcohol is metabolized, substances that are harmful to the liver are produced, which damage liver cells and cause fat deposition.
▸Non-alcoholic fatty liver: This type of fatty liver has nothing to do with drinking and is common in patients with metabolic syndrome such as obesity, diabetes, high blood lipids and high blood pressure. Unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and long-term high-sugar and high-fat diet are its main causes.
Fatty liver usually has no obvious symptoms in the early stage, and many people may not be discovered until a physical examination. As the disease progresses, the following symptoms may occur:
▸Upper abdominal discomfort or dull pain
▸Loss of appetite, nausea
▸Fatigue, weakness
▸Abnormal liver function (detected by blood test)
If fatty liver is not treated in time, it may cause hepatitis, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.
▸Obesity
▸Diabetes
▸Hyperlipidemia
▸Lack of exercise and unhealthy diet
▸Maintain a healthy weight
▸Reduce the intake of high-sugar and high-fat foods
▸Exercise appropriately
▸Control blood sugar and blood lipids
▸Quit drinking
If you find that you are at risk of fatty liver, you should take timely measures to prevent the condition from worsening. Fatty liver can be completely controlled through early intervention. Pay attention to health and stay away from liver disease.
