The United States is facing a severe shortage of medical assistants (HCAs) across the country, with an aging population driving a critical need for skilled professionals. To meet this need, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers training programs that allow participants to obtain the qualifications needed to quickly join this rewarding profession. The program provides a fast path to certification while helping to meet the growing demand for compassionate and capable healthcare workers. See below for how to participate
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) helps them become certified healthcare assistants. Students in the program will have the opportunity to "earn" while completing their healthcare assistant certification at a post-secondary institution. Throughout the program, students will receive support, training, and mentorship from a team of professional nurses.
The program lasts approximately 8-12 months, and to be accepted into the program, people need to commit to working in the position for 12 months upon being hired, and after certification, wages can reach $31.43 to $45.52 per hour, plus other benefits.
HCAs are important members of the healthcare team, which includes nurses, physicians, and other professionals. They spend a significant amount of time working directly with patients, helping them with daily activities that are important to their health and well-being. HCAs serve people of all ages in many different settings.
Training is held at HCA sites both online and in person. Students in the program may be required to complete assignments outside of work hours.
Anyone can apply, and those who are fluent in English and live in rural and remote areas can also apply. Applicants do not need certification or prior healthcare experience to apply.
Apply for a full-time or part-time healthcare assistant position at AHS. Once hired, applicants will be asked if they are interested in participating in the program, which accepts students monthly.
The program offers a unique opportunity for people interested in a healthcare career that is highly rewarding. As a healthcare assistant in the program, you will:
• Make a difference in the lives of patients, families, and communities
• Earn compensation while earning your certification
• Receive support from your team and healthcare professionals
• Have the opportunity to grow your career
• Receive great benefits
