Details on TIFFCOM 2026: Innovations and Global Reach

The Tokyo International Film Festival's affiliated content market, TIFFCOM, is scheduled to take place from October 28 to October 30, 2026, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan. This significant event is a collaborative effort by key Japanese governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Unijapan. Concurrently, the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival will unfold from October 26 to November 4 across various vibrant districts of Tokyo, such as Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi, and Ginza.

This initiative follows a successful Japan IP Market event at the Cannes Film Market in May, which saw over 700 attendees for its intellectual property pitching and discussion sessions. The Tokyo IP Market aims to facilitate adaptation rights for manga and novels, as well as remake rights for various film and television productions.

Shiina Yasushi, the executive adviser of Unijapan and CEO of TIFFCOM, highlighted the undeniable surge in global appetite for Japanese creative properties. The conference agenda is packed with approximately 20 sessions, covering diverse topics such as the international growth of Japanese IP, a detailed report on the anime sector, the impact of AI, and forging international business alliances, with a particular emphasis on Asian territories. The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, TIFFCOM's platform for feature films, will host its seventh iteration, showcasing about 20 projects selected from numerous submissions. This segment benefits from a co-production collaboration with Frontières, the Fantasia International Film Festival's project market situated in Canada.

Ikeda Kaori, managing director of TIFFCOM and Unijapan, articulated the organization's commitment to delivering a highly valuable three-day experience for all participants. The goal is to provide rich opportunities for content exchange, access to cutting-edge industry insights, and robust networking possibilities for buyers, producers, and other visitors.

Motion graphic designer and illustrator Kawakami Takashi has once again been enlisted to create TIFFCOM's 2026 key visual. His illustrative depiction of Tokyo, previously featured on the cover of the popular culture magazine Brutus, reflects his extensive work for events like Tomorrowland and various commercial establishments. Kawakami expressed his hope that many more creative works would become cherished treasures for audiences worldwide. TIFFCOM consistently ranks among Asia's foremost content markets, with its 2025 edition attracting over 4,600 industry professionals from 46 countries and regions.

The expansion of TIFFCOM's focus to include AI and anime conferences is a forward-thinking move that acknowledges the dynamic shifts in the global entertainment landscape. By embracing these burgeoning fields, TIFFCOM not only solidifies Japan's position as a hub for innovative content but also creates invaluable opportunities for creators and industry professionals to explore new avenues for collaboration and growth. This strategic evolution will likely foster a more diverse and interconnected future for media production, inspiring new narratives and technological advancements across the world.
