During a cherished family summer retreat in Wisconsin, 12-year-old Madilyn Davis, under the guidance of her father, Dillon, achieved an extraordinary feat by reeling in a record-breaking muskie. The Davis family has a long-standing tradition of vacationing in the Eagle River area, and it was on Long Lake that Madilyn's determination to land a significant catch came to fruition.
Despite an earlier disappointment when a large muskie eluded her, Madilyn remained persistent. On the final afternoon of their trip, after another muskie slipped away, she cast her Mepps spinner for what she believed would be her last try. To her surprise, she felt a strong pull. With her father's encouragement, she battled the powerful fish, eventually netting a 31.10-inch muskie. The family, equipped with an IGFA-certified measuring board, quickly documented the catch before safely releasing the vibrant fish back into the lake.
Madilyn's remarkable catch was officially recognized by the International Game Fish Association as the “All-Tackle Junior Length Muskie Record,” marking the first such global youth record for muskies. This achievement not only fulfilled one of Madilyn's personal goals but also showcased her resilience and passion for the sport.
